Know about climate of Dehradun

Dehradun is the capital of Uttarakhand located in the northern part of India. Dehradun is located in the Garhwal region and it is 263 kms away from New Delhi. It is situated in the Doon Valley, which is in the foothills of the Himalayas, and it is surrounded by two of the mightiest rivers Ganges towards the east and Yamuna towards the west. The city of Dehradun is among most popular tourist destination for tourists from various corners of the world. It is well-known for its picturesque landscapes and mild climate. This is the perfect summer vacation destination. It is well connected with other tourist destinations like Nainital, Auli, Mussoorie, Haridwar and Rishikesh. 


The city of Dehradun has become a favourite tourist destination because of its climate. The climate of Dehradun can be considered as a moderate climate because it is located at the foot of the Himalayas. Dehradun enjoys – warm summers, cool winters, rainy monsoon and lovely spring. Since it is situated on the foothills of Himalayas, the climate gets colder as you increase the altitude. The higher you go, colder you will feel. Most of the tourists come to visit Dehradun during the summers as the heat is not much during the summers. But, during the winters, it becomes extremely cold and the temperatures drop below the freezing point.  The most significant season of Dehradun is the monsoon. The city is very often referred as the Rainy City of India because of the continuous and incessant rainfall during the monsoon in Dehradun. Dehradun is among the state’s wettest capital as it generally receives a large amount of rainfall from the period June to September. The maximum rainfall is received during the months of July and August.
